The Best Tech-Based Horror Movies on Hulu

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

A documentary gone wrong.

A found footage classic, The Blair Witch Project portrays a group of friends who video-document their hunt for the fabled Blair Witch. Their excursion slowly turns into something more sinister as they begin to believe they instead are the ones being hunted. Their experience is archived through the eyes of their camera’s viewfinder, convincing the audience that the evil in this film exists in the real world. No matter what you believe, The Blair Witch Project will leave you feeling questionable about camping for quite some time.

The Fly (1986)

Can science go too far? When Jeff Goldblum is involved, the answer is always yes.

Teleportation is at the forefront of a scientist’s mind, and experiments are abound. When a successful attempt is made to teleport from one location to another, a common housefly becomes unintentionally involved with the process. As time wears on, the scientist slowly morphs into a fly-man hybrid, terrifying himself as well as his girlfriend. The Fly will ultimately have you asking, “Now where did I leave that bug spray?...”

V/H/S (2012)

Despite the title, you don’t need a tape player to enjoy this movie!

V/H/S is a series of 6 short horror films also falling into the found footage genre. A group of criminals is instructed to steal a seemingly everyday camcorder. Upon viewing the camera’s content, they soon realize this wasn’t the simple heist they initially signed up for. From aliens, to mysterious bite wounds, to forbidden love, to just downright confusing spookiness, these shorts will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)

The only thing worse than clowns is murderous alien clowns.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is an unlikely masterpiece, blending science fiction and humor into a quintessential horror plot. A couple of teenagers spot a large object crashing into Earth and decide to search the impacted area. They’re shocked when they find an alien spaceship, but they aren’t the kind of aliens you’d expect to see in Area 51: they’re murderous clowns! The teens rush to the authorities, but of course, no one believes their alien-clown story. When no one comes to the rescue, the teens realize it’s up to them to destroy the otherworldly circus threat.

Paranormal Activity (2007)

The worst kind of activity.

A modern staple in the horror genre, Paranormal Activity follows Katie and Micah, a young married couple who recently moved into a suburban home. Katie admits to her husband that she believes a ghostly spirit has been following her for a large portion of her life, and the two decide to install security cameras to document anything out of the ordinary happening in the house. As time wears on, the cameras begin to prove to the couple that the things that go bump in the night are precisely what they seem.
